UMass Hosts Connecticut Thursday In First Home Meet Of Season

AMHERST, Mass. - The Massachusetts rowing team will host the University of Connecticut Thursday April 16 for their first matchup on their home course this season. The first event comes on the heels of two previously scheduled meets along UMass' home course on the Connecticut River that had to be relocated due to ice that remained along portions of the course until mid-March.
The first event is scheduled to start at 9:15 a.m. with the Varsity Eight race. Other events include the Second Varsity Eight, the Varsity Four and Second Varsity Four races, and will conclude with the Third Varsity Eight race. Additionally, the UMass Novice Eight will compete in the Third Varsity Eight. 
For the Minutewomen, this will be the first race on their home course since mid-October when they hosted the Seven Sisters Sculling Regatta and the first time in nearly a year that they have gone head-to-head with the Huskies.
In the last matchup with Connecticut, the Minutewomen swept five events, as they took first in the Varsity 8+, Second Varsity 8+, Varsity 4+, Second Varsity 4+ and Novice 8+ races on the Huskies home course in Coventry, Connecticut.

Checking the Forecast: Thursday's weather calls for sunny skies with a high of 66 degrees Fahrenheit. Winds will be in the southerly directions at 12 miles per hour and there is a zero percent chance of precipitation, according to Weather.com.
Recent News: This past weekend, the Minutewomen traveled to West Windsor Township, New Jersey for the two-day Knecht Cup. After advancing all boats to Knecht Cup Finals, UMass picked up six total medals with a sweep of the 2- event, a silver and bronze medal in the Women's Singles event, and a second place finish in the Second Varsity 8 event. Up Next: The Minutewomen will travel to Boston on Saturday for a weekend matchup against Boston University, Northeastern, and Brown for their final race before the start of the Atlantic 10 Championships on May 2 in Camden, New Jersey.
