Scouting UMass · UMass (5-12, 1-2) enters the weekend following a 1-2 result at George Mason last weekend to open league play. The team also has 60 RBI and 61 runs. · Senior Quianna Diaz-Patterson has been on a tear this season, leading the league and ranking 21st nationally with a .481 betting avg. The leadoff hitter also ranks 23rd nationally in on-base pct. (.563) and 18th in slugging pct. (.865). · Sophomore Ashton Wince is hitting .333 to go along with two doubles, eight RBI and a team-high three sac bunts. · Senior Caroline Raymond (3-7, 3.97) and freshman Meg Colleran (1-5, 3.53) have recorded the majority of the time in the circle, combining for 105.1 of the 108 innings pitched and factoring into 16 of the 17 decisions. Scouting Saint Joseph's · SJU (16-6, 2-0) comes into the weekend on a four-game winning streak following a mid-week win over Saint Peters. The Hawks opened league play with a pair of wins over Rhode Island. · SJU leads the A-10 in batting avg (.341), on-base pct. (.413) and slugging pct. (.556). · Sarah Yoos is second in the league in hitting with a .440 batting avg and first with a .618 on-base pct. Series With Saint Joseph's · UMass leads the series 59-8. The series is the 5th most played is school history. UMass is also 33-1 in Amherst, 24-5 in Philadelphia, and 4-2 in neutral sites. · A year ago, UMass swept the two-game series at home with a big third inning in their first game thanks to a pair of home runs by Jena Cozza and now graduated senior, Tiffany Meeks. In the second game, UMass again took advantage of the long ball with another pair of homers again by Meeks and another graduated senior, Lindsey Webster. Pitching was strong in both games as Caroline Raymond limited the Hawks to only four hits in the first game, before Tara Klee limited them to only one earned run in the second game. Contagious Hitting · UMass has shown many times before just how contagious hitting can be, as they have produced 5 games with over 6 runs scored and have four games with double digit hits. · The longest current hitting streak is held by senior third baseman, Anna Kelley with a 4-game streak. Tied with Kelley in current reached base streaks is senior center fielder, Mikayla Panko. Panko is very fast and capable of reeking havoc on the base path for opponents, as she showed with her delay steal against George Mason A-10 Scheduling Change Takes Effect This Year ·The Atlantic 10 softball coaches implemented a new schedule format this season, opting for 3-game series against seven schools, a midweek doubleheader againstatraditional rival (for UMass it is an April 14 trip to Rhode Island), while not playing one team. UMass does not play La Salle in 2015. ·The2015 schedule consists of 23 games for all 10 teams - the most in A-10 history. ·The first game of any weekend league doubleheader and any single game are scheduled to start at Noon. The second game of a DH will be approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the firstgame.
