Minutemen Finish 20th At New England Championship

BOSTON, Mass - The New England Championships wrapped up Saturday with several impressive showings from members of the UMass men's track and field squad. As a team, the Minutemen finished 20th overall out of 33 teams. Northeastern took home the gold with 161 points, followed by Rhode Island and Southern Connecticut State to round out the top-three. Highlights of the day from UMass included the 4x800 relay team's fourth-place finish, which set the fourth all-time program mark as well as Greg Copeland's eighth-place finish in the heptathlon.
The men's heptathlon competition, which began on Friday, wrapped up on Saturday, seeeing Copeland claim eighth with 4,566 points. Close behind, Nick Ingham took home ninth place at 4,511 points.
Benjamin Groleau had a blazing fast finish in the mile run, finishing ninth place at 4 minutes, 11.22-seconds.
The 4x800 relay team set a fourth place all-time UMass program mark. Michael McNaughton, Stephen Ness, Alexander Finestone, and Benjamin Groleau ran a combined time of 7 minutes, 37.65-seconds to earn fourth place overall. The 4x400 relay team of Peter Farlow, Patrick Farnham, Adam Bonfilio, and Deion Arneaud finished 20th at 3 minutes, 22.79-seconds.
The Minutemen have a week to rest up and prepare before their next competition as the squad will take on the IC4A Championship next. The meet begins 10:00 a.m. in Boston, Mass., on Friday, March 6.
