UMass Continues Play at Cougar Classic Tournament Four Games on Tap for Minutewomen The Massachusetts softball team continues play this weekend when they head to South Carolina for the Cougar Classic hosted by the College of Charleston. The five-team tournament will feature UMass in four games against the College of Charleston, Bowling Green, Winthrop, and Appalachian State over the three-day tournament.

Scouting College of Charleston (Friday, 3:00 pm)
The Cougars are 4-3 on the season after playing in both the Charleston Challenge and the Gamecock Invitational to begin the season. In those two tournaments, the Cougars have defeated the likes of UNCG, Army, Presbyterian, and Bethune Cookman. They are led by junior outfielder Rebecca Mueller, who is hitting .474 with 12 RBI's in all seven games she has started on the young season. The Cougars went 40-16 (14-4 CAA) last season and finished among the top-50 in RPI and were chosen to finish second in the CAA Pre-Season Poll for the upcoming year. Charleston defeated UMass last season by a score of 13-3 (5 innings) in the only matchup between the two schools.

Scouting Bowling Green (Saturday, 10:00 am)
The Falcons enter the Cougar Classic with a 3-1 overall record after defeating Niagra, Canisius, and Robert Morris in the Cleveland State University Dome Tournament the first weekend of February. Junior pitcher Braiden Dillow , a MAC Pitcher of the Week honoree for the week of February 10, went 2-0 and earned a save in the teams three wins on the season. BGSU was picked to finish sixth in the Mid-American Conference after going 23-28-1 during the 2014 season. This will be the first matchup between the two programs.

Scouting Winthrop (Sunday, 11:00 am)
The Eagles enter the Classic 4-6 after seeing action in the Red & Black Showcase and the Auburn Tournament to kick off the 2015 campaign. Winthrop has defeated Illinois, Coppin State, Murray State, and Ball State while also seeing #10/12 Georgia and #19/20 Auburn. They were picked fifth in the Big South Conference Preseason Poll after completing the 2014 season with an overall record of 27-26. The teams are meeting for the first time on the diamond Sunday.

Scouting Appalachian State (Sunday, 1:30 pm)
UMass will finish off play in the Cougar Classic when they face Appalachian State for the first time in the programs history. The Mountaineers have accumulated a 3-4 record on the season with action in both the Plainsman Invite and the Gamecock Invitational with wins over Evansville (5-4), North Carolina (4-3) and Presbyterian (3-2).
