LANCASTER, Pa. - University of Massachusetts field hockey alumni Hannah Prince (2010-13) and Alesha Widdall (2008-11) helped the United States National Team to a test series victory over Argentina with one win and three draws accumulated from Feb. 13-18. Argentina is the No. 3 ranked team in the world according to the International Hockey Federation while the United States sits at No. 8.
Team USA and Argentina tied, 1-1, in each of the opening two games. Argentina rallied for a 2-2 tie in the third contest before the U.S. squad earned a 2-0 shutout in the final matchup.
Current University of Massachusetts field hockey volunteer assistant coach Melissa Gonzalez also participated with Team USA against Argentina alongside Prince and Widdall and fueled the offense with two goals in the third contest.
Prince served as a defender for Carla Tagliente's Minutewomen and plays defense and midfield for the United States. She was previously selected to the Team USA travel roster for the six-match test series in New Zealand from Oct. 18-26, 2014 after the Gorham, Maine, native became the 11th former Minutewoman selected to the United States Field Hockey National Team on June 25, 2014.
Widdall has played with Team USA's senior side since 2012 after she was first named a member of the United States Junior National Team in 2006. She earned the lone victory over Argentina during the friendly series when she shut out the opposition in a 2-0 win.
