Diaz-Patterson, Colleran Claim Atlantic 10 Softball Weekly Awards

AMHERST, Mass. - Massachusetts softball standouts Quianna Diaz-Patterson and Meg Colleran picked up two of the three weekly awards from the Atlantic 10 Conference on Tuesday.
Diaz-Patterson earned Athlete of the Week and Colleran nabbed Rookie of the Week after the first weekend of action for UMass.
Diaz-Patterson hit .467 with five RBI and five extra-base hits, including a pair of home runs in five games of UMass' season-opening 2-3 road trip at Houston. She hit safely in all five games and posted a .579 on-base pct. and a 1.067 slugging pct. Her 3-run home run put UMass ahead for good in the win over 2014 NCAA Tournament team DePaul and sparked the team's 7-run fifth inning.
Colleran went 1-1 with a 1.69 ERA in 4 appearances (2 starts) last weekend in her first collegiate competition. In her first career appearance, she threw a complete game with three strikeouts in a 5-3 loss to defending Southland champ McNeese State with zero earned runs. Colleran came back a day later and fanned eight while allowing just two runs in a 9-2 win over 2014 NCAA participant DePaul, while also snapping UMass' 4-game losing skid to the Demons sating back to the 2012 NCAA Tournament. She finished the weekend with 12 strikeouts in 16 innings while holding opponents to a .217 batting avg.
The Minutewomen will return to action this weekend at the Cougar Classic, hosted by the College of Charleston Friday-Sunday.
