AMHERST, Mass. - UMass hockey freshmen Dennis Kravchenko and Brandon Montour both collected weekly honors on Monday following the Minutemen's three-point Hockey East weekend vs. #14/15 Merrimack. Kravchenko became the second UMass freshman to nab a Hockey East Rookie of the Week recognition this season, while Montour was named the UMass Athlete of the Week on the heels of junior Shane Walsh earning the accolade last week.

Kravchenko contributed two goals and an assist with four blocked shots on the weekend vs. the Warriors. After registering an assist on a shorthanded goal on Friday night, helping UMass rally from a 3-1 deficit to tie Merrimack 4-4, Kravchenko netted two on Sunday, including the game winner, and was named the No. 1 star of the game for leading the Minutemen to a 4-1 victory over the Warriors.

Sunday's outing marked Kravchenko's second multi-goal game of the season and sixth multi-point game of the year. In league play, Kravchenko currently ranks second in freshman scoring with 14 points (6g, 8a), tied for fourth in overall. Nationally the Laguna Niguel, Calif., native is tied for seventh in freshman scoring with 21 points (8g, 13a).

Montour continued his hot start to his young collegiate career with a goal and two assists this weekend vs. Merrimack with all three points coming in special teams situations via a shorthanded goal and assist and an assist on the power play. The defenseman was named the No. 1 Star of the game on Friday at Merrimack as his two points (1g, 1a) in the third period helped the Minutemen earn their first point in Lawler Rink since 2008.

Montour was +2 and had six blocks over the two games and contributed to a 3-for-12 (25%) showing on the power play (25%) against a team that entered the weekend with the nation's No.4-ranked penalty kill. He also was a part of the Minutemen's penalty killing unit that was successful on 11 of 12 (91.7%) kills vs. the Warriors.

Since joining the team in December, Montour is averaging 1.00 points-per game and leads UMass in scoring to start the second half of the season with 10 points (2g, 8a). The Minutemen have gone 4-4-1 in those contests.

Montour will be recognized at the UMass Sports Luncheon on Wednesday, Jan. 28, in the Massachusetts Room of the Mullins Center. The luncheon will take place from Noon-1:15 p.m. and will feature hockey Head Coach John Micheletto and softball Head Coach Kristi Stefanoni as guest speakers. Parking is available for free behind the Mullins Center. A buffet lunch will be served for $14/ person.
