Minutemen Take On Harvard Multi Meet and Beantown Challenge

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Despite the final score, the UMass men's track and field program had great individual performances at the Harvard Multi Meet and Beantown Challenge. The Friday through Saturday event at Harvard ended with Cornell taking gold with 164 points. The Minutemen's individual efforts, which, although the scoreboard didn't reflect, speak to the talent of the young team.
In the heptathlon, Greg Copeland took eighth place. Copeland finished the seven event competition with a total score of 4,358 points.
Cory Thomas and Adam Selsman finished neck and neck in the 1 mile run. Thomas took seventh at 4 minutes, 22.11-seconds while Selsman nabbed eighth with a time of 4 minutes, 22.23-seconds. Another eighth place finish was to be had in the 800 meter run by Eric Gironda, finishing the event in 2 minutes, 00.71-seconds. Alex Finestone took seventh in the 500 meter dash, achieving so with a time of 1 minute, 8.41-seconds.
Deion Arneaud also had a good showing in the jump events. The sophomore took fifth place in both long jump and triple jump. Arneaud leapt 21 feet, 9.00-inches in long jump and 43 feet, 10.50-inches in triple jump.
Next for the Minutemen comes the Northeastern Indoor Games. The event, located in Roxbury, Mass, is expected for Friday, January 23. Start time is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
