Tennis Posts Solid Performances At Army Invite

Stellar performances from Ana Yrazusta Acosta highlighted the weekend as the freshman made it to the Flight B singles final match, as well as the semifinal Flight A doubles match. Paired up alongside Carol Benito in the A Flight, the tandem battled through a pair of difficult matches in the first two rounds and tallied an 8-6 win over UConn and an 8-7 win over Stony Brook. The duo went on to take the quarterfinal match against Quinnipiac, 8-4, before Syracuse clinched the semifinal round, 8-7.
In Flight B, Anna Woosley and Chanel Glasper teamed up to take on St. Peter's and Seton Hall. The pair logged victories in the first two rounds until withdrawing due to illness in the quarterfinal match against Stony Brook.
Yrazusta opened the singles B Flight with a convincing 6-0, 6-3 win over NJIT. The newcomer went on to sweep Long Island University and continued her winning style into the quarterfinal and semifinal matches. Yrazusta recorded 6-1, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-1 wins over Albany and UConn, respectively before retiring to Syracuse in the final round.
In Flights C and D, the Minutewomen made it all the way to the semifinal match-ups, thanks to Benito and Glasper. Benito commanded the singles C Flight where the rookie bested Quinnipiac 6-1, 6-2 in the first round. Benito then tabbed a 6-1, 6-1, win over Army in the Round of 16. The freshman rallied in the quarterfinal match to record a 0-6, 6-2 (10-2) come-from-behind victory over Lehigh to advance to the semifinal match. There, Benito suffered a 6-4, 6-0 loss to Stony Brook senior, Cassandra Dix.
Glasper carried the Minutewomen in the D Flight, opening with a first round 6-0, 6-1 win over Lehigh. The senior went on to clinch a win in the Round of 16 against Seton Hall and also rallied in the quarterfinals, 0-6, 6-3 (10-8) against UConn. Stony Brook again took home the semifinal singles match with Becky Shtilkind's 6-3, 4-6 (10-7) efforts.
The Minutewomen return to action on Thursday, Oct. 9 when the squad will travel to Storrs, Connecticut for their first dual match of the season.
