Five From UMass Rowing Honored With CRCA Awards

AMHERST, Mass. - Five members of the UMass rowing program received accolades when the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced its all-region and scholar-athlete selections for 2014 on Tuesday, May 27, as Candace Miller took in CRCA All-New England First Team and Rebecca Adams, Nicole Juul-Hindsgaul, Krysten Menks and Lauren St. Pierre picked up academic laurels.

Miller is a member of the currently undefeated Varsity 8+ boat and took home Atlantic 10 First Team All-Conference following UMass' A-10 Championship victory on May 4. Sitting in the No. 4 seat, she has also assisted the Varsity 8+ to first place finishes at the Knecht Cup on April 13 and the Dad Vail Regatta on May 10.

Adams, Juul-Hindsgaul, Menks and St. Pierre have each been lauded for their academic success previously with mention on the Atlantic 10 Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll. Adams has raced with the Second Varsity 8+ and Second Varsity 4+ this season while Menks and St. Pierre row with the Varsity 8+ alongside Miller. Juul-Hindsgaul, one of the team captains, has been a versatile contributor to the squad. She has appeared in the Varsity 8+, Second Varsity 8+, Varsity 4+ and Varsity Pair.

Massachusetts concludes its season with an appearance in the 2014 NCAA Rowing Championships. The event begins Friday, May 31 at the Indianapolis Rowing Center at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis, Ind., and runs through Sunday, June 1.
