WESTFIELD, Mass. - On Saturday the Minutemen finished the New England Championship with two fifth place efforts in Westfield, Mass. The Minutemen finished in 30 place Southern Connecticut State taking home the gold with 108 points. Stephen Bigelow and Paolo Tavares led the way for the Minutemen with their individual efforts.

Bigelow placed fifth in the 110 meter hurdles of his final New England Championship. The senior co-captain out of Winchester, Mass., finished in just 14.44-seconds.

UMass freshman standout, Tavares ran the steeplechase in just 9-minutes, 23.05-seconds. The time placed him fifth overall and marks his first New England scoring performance.

Next week the Minutemen will take those who qualify to the IC4A Championship in Princeton, N.J.
