AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts field hockey team received praise for its work in the classroom from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) this week as 11 Minutewomen were chosen for the NFHCA Academic Squad on Wednesday after the entire program was honored with a Division I Academic Team Award Tuesday. Senior Alexa Sikalis led the group as a four-year recipient of the individual recognition.

Lauren Allymohamed, Sam Carlino, Katie Clark, Hailey Cockrum, Alyssa Ineson, Cliodhna Loughlin, Molly MacDonnell, Mariajose Rodriguez, Mel Sutherland and Charlotte Verelst joined Sikalis on the NFHCA Academic Squad.

The 11 recipients of the individual award tied the 2013 squad with its 2012 Minutewomen predecessors for most earned in one year in program history. UMass recorded a team-wide GPA above 3.0 to earn the NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award.

The 2013-14 NFHCA Division I Academic Squad recognized field hockey student-athletes from around the country who earned a 3.30 GPA or higher cumulatively through the fall semester of the 2013-14 academic year.
