Atlantic 10 Conference Release AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts field hockey freshman defender and midfielder Melanie Kreusch was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on Monday. Kreusch led the conference with eight points earned on four goals during back-to-back wins over Lock Haven, 3-0 and Saint Francis, 3-2.
Kreusch scored once on Friday, Oct. 3 as the Minutewomen blanked Lock Haven to hand the Lady Eagles their first conference loss of the season. Against the Red Flash, Kreusch knotted play at 1-1 in the 54th minute before she gave the Minutewomen a one-goal lead 10 minutes later. After Saint Francis answered to tie it back up at 2-2, Kreusch scored her third goal of the half in the 69th minute to seal the win and hand the Red Flash their first loss of the season.
Kreusch also shares the UMass Dinn Brothers Athlete of the Week Award with rowing's Carly Zanatta.
