UMass Cruises Past AIC In Exhibition, 120-71

AMHERST, Mass. - The Massachusetts men's basketball team used a 15-2 first-half run to pull away and cruise to a 120-71 exhibition game victory over American International on Thursday night.
Donte Clark and Demetrius Dyson led a total of seven players in double figures with 17 points each. Cady Lalanne had a quiet 14 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks in 12 minutes.
UMass shot 55 percent from the floor and was 11 of 25 from outside for 44 percent. The Minutemen had 30 assists on 41 field goals and scored 27 points off 17 Yellow Jacket turnovers.
Guards Trey Davis, Jabarie Hinds and C.J. Anderson combined for 19 assists. Davis and Hinds were also in double figures with 16 and 10 points, respectively.
With AIC holding a 13-12 lead 4:30 into the game, UMass went on a 15-2 run - which included 11-consecutive at one point - to claim a 27-15 edge just 4:18 later.
The Minutemen never looked back, taking a 52-28 advantage into the locker room, closing the period on an 8-0 run.
UMass opened the second half on another 8-0 run after back-to-back triples from front-court teammates Maxie Esho and Lalanne. Esho added a dunk to spark an 18-4 run over the first 4:30.
The lead swelled to 58 with 2:50 to play before the final margin of 49 came about in the final minute.
UMass' 120 points scored and the 49-point margin of victory were the largest in an exhibition game over the past 15 seasons.
UMass will open the regular-season in two weeks against Siena on Friday, Nov. 14. Tip off at the Mullins Center is set for 7 p.m.
