DAYTON, Ohio - The UMass baseball team jumped out in front with a run in the second, but six unanswered by the Flyers carried Dayton past the Minutemen, 6-1 on Friday afternoon at Woerner Field. Following the setback UMass is 19-19 overall, 11-9 in the Atlantic 10, while the Flyers move to 24-27 and 13-7 in the conference.

UMass plated a run in the top of the second to take a 1-0 lead. Senior Tom Conley poked a leadoff single through the right side, was sacrificed over to second, tagged up on a fly ball to move to third and scored on a hard-hit ball back up the middle by sophomore Nik Campero.

In their next turn at bat, though, Dayton promptly tied the score as Zach Stewart dropped a double into right and came home on a two-out single from Robby Sunderman.

The Flyers then took the lead with four runs on three hits in the bottom of the third. Bobby Glover led off the inning with a home run to left, Joe Gayda was hit by a pitch and later scored on a RBI groundout by A.J. Ryan. With two away, Zach Stewart and Jared Broughton drove in Dayton's fourth and fifth runs with RBI singles.

Scoring in a third straight inning, Sunderman led off the Flyers' half of the fourth with a home run to left to increase the margin to 6-1.

Senior Glen Misho took the loss (1-6) for UMass. He went three innings in his start and allowed six runs on eight hits, walked one and struck out one. Tim Bury logged the complete game victory (7-2) for Dayton and allowed one run on seven hits and fanned five.

Conley (2-for-3) and redshirt freshman Adam Picard (2-for-4) combined for four of the Minutemen's seven hits. Brian Blasik finished the afternoon 3-for-4 for the Flyers, Sunderman went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored, while Stewart went 2-for-4, drove in one and scored twice.

The teams will close out the series tomorrow afternoon, May 12, with game three set for a noon start.
