WORCESTER, Mass. - After one day of competition at the Holy Cross Decathlon Invite, Mark Hewitt sits in fifth place, leading the way for UMass with 3051 points. Daniel Schwartz also was on the track and in the field on Wednesday, and has tallied 2859 points and sits in eighth. A total of 15 competitors compile the field in Worcester, Mass.
Hewitt recorded recorded a personal record in the 400 meter dash on day one by crossing the line at 52.76. The readout was good enough for 712 points.
Schwartz's highest point sum came as well in the 400 meter dash, as the redshirt senior clocked in at 54.05 for 638 points.
Day two of the Holy Cross Decathlon will take place on Thursday starting at 11 a.m. The featured events will include the 110 meter hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw, and 1500 meter run.
