Varsity 4+ Continues Its Success At The Yankee Cup

KINGSTON, R.I. - The UMass rowing team competed at the Yankee Cup in Kingston, R.I. in their second race of the spring season. The Varsity 4+ placed first for the second week in a row and the Junior Varsity 8+ finished in second place.
The Varsity 4+ was coxswained by Isabel Feldman and the stroke was led by Arielle Gillette and finished with a time of 8:00.20. Also in the boat was Hannah Monahan, Emily Sgarlat, and Adrienne Breef-Pilz. The Minutewomen finished nine seconds ahead of conference foes Rhode Island and 47 seconds ahead of New Hampshire.
The Junior Varsity 8+, which was led by coxswain Madolyn Chiu, finished with a time of 7:25.58. They were behind the Rhode Island boat by 14 seconds, but managed to overtake the New Hampshire boat by 17 seconds.
The two alternate 4+ boats took first and second in their races. Emily Hajjar coxswained for the leading boat, finishing with a time of 8:37.55. Heather Pekarovich coxswained the second place boat, crossing the finish line with a time of 8:38.18.
The Novice 8+ boat finished in second place in their race with a time of 7:56.27. Caitlyn O'Leary coxswained the boat and Kelly St. Cyr led the stroke. The Varsity 8+ finished in third place with a time of 7:21.22. Heather Pekarovich was the coxswain, Kaitlin MacKenzie led the stroke.
The Minutewomen race again next weekend in Storrs, Conn. at the University of Connecticut on April 6.
