Minutewomen Post Stellar Performance at Princeton Chase - University of Massachusetts Athletics

PRINCETON, N.J. – The UMass rowing team wrapped up its fall schedule on Sunday at the Princeton Chase, with the Minutewomen's four boats enjoying success across the three-mile race. UMass' four boats finished in 15th, 22nd, 50th and 60th, respectively.

"Proud from the 1V down to the 4V how they've fought," said head coach Eric Carcich. "We've had our share of adversity this fall from injuries to sickness, and the team has done a really good job showing up. We feel like we're in a place right now where we can contend for a championship. That's all we need to know right now."

The three-mile head race features crews going off in increments and racing against themselves to put forth the best time possible. The Minutewomen's A boat finished in 15th with a time of 14:45.63. The JV boat came in 22nd (15:08.56), with the 3V finishing 50th (16:21.95) and 4V placing 60th (16:52.28).

"What was more clear than ever was our depth that we showed today," said Carcich. "Our JV down to our 4V performed incredibly well."

The performance came against a variety of nationally-ranked programs the Minutewomen could compare their speed against, along with other institutions from the MAC and other conferences UMass regularly competes against. It was a perfect culmination of a successful fall seasons.

"It has been a really good fall building off the theme of this is a brand new year," said Carcich. "Nothing is guaranteed. It's a brand-new group even though we have a lot of our team returning from last year; it's always going to be different. New challenges and new growth. But this team has bought right in and really been committed to the process."

Carcich knows the fall is about building foundations for success. But the work is far from done.

"We can contend for the championship in 2027," said Carcich. "Now, it's time to do the work and build from where we are now to where we want to be on May 15."
