UMass Rowing Takes Five Of Six Races Against UConn

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - The UMass rowing team took on UConn on Friday, April 6 in Middletown, Conn. The Varsity 8+ saw their first win of the season and the Varsity 4+ continued their success. The Minutewomen take on Holy Cross tomorrow, Saturday April 7.

The Varsity 4+ won their race by open water, finishing with a time of 7:33.2, which was 23.6 seconds faster than the UConn boat. The lineup stayed the same for this boat from the past two weekends, with Isabel Feldman coxswaining and Arielle Gilette leading the stroke.

The second Varsity 4+ also took first with a time of 7:57.3. Ari Barrenchea coxswained the boat to a victory by eleven seconds.

The Lightweight 8+ had a commanding win, defeating the UConn boat by 19.3 seconds, crossing the finish line in 7:25.5 minutes. The coxswain was Madolyn Chiu and Nicole Juul-Hinds, who also raced in the second Varsity 4+, lead the stroke.

The Varsity 8+ earned their first win of the season in a close race with UConn, which they won by six seconds with a time of 6:47.5. The coxswain for this boat was Heather Pekarovich and Kaitlin MacKenzie lead the stroke. The Second Varsity 8+ also finished six seconds ahead of the competition, ending with a time of 6:56.1. Emily Hajjar coxswained and Rachel Boudreau lead the stroke.

The Novice 8+ couldn't pull off the victory and fell just five seconds short of the victory, finishing with a time of 7:18.7. The boat was lead by coxswain Caitlyn O'Leary and the stroke was lead by Kelly St. Cyr.
