UMass To Travel To Boston For New England Championships

BOSTON, MASS. - The Minutewomen will travel on Friday to Boston University, home of the 2012 Indoor New England Championships. A total of 20 athletes will compete this weekend in a variety of events. Kaylee DeVincent (Southborough, Mass.) will not be competing this weekend due to injury. DeVincent is a New England qualifier in both the shot put and weight throw this season. UMass is coming off an exciting weekend at the A-10's where three women had record setting performances.
On the first day of competition, UMass' sole competitor in the pole vault etched her name in at fourth all-time at UMass.
On day two of the championships Rebecca Stoyle (Pembroke, Mass.) and Rachelle Bourque (Rowley, Mass.) both had strong record setting performances in their events.
Looking ahead to Friday, Chrissy Silvar will kick off the New England Championships at 4:00 p.m. in the pole vault. Some other notables on Friday are Jaclyn Lam (Stockton, Cal.) competing in the long jump and Deanna Julian (Dudley, Mass.) competing in the 1000 meter run. Karen Roa will anchor the distance medley relay squad.
On day two of the championships Courtney Baldwin (Lowell, Mass.) will compete in the mile run. Rebecca Stoyle will get her shot at qualifying for the ECAC in the triple jump while Nalis Mbianda and Rachelle Bourque will display their talents in the shot put. Finishing off the New England Championships are the 4x800 and 4x400 meter relay teams.
