Minutemen Place 8th At A-10 Meet

NORTH KINGSTON, R.I. - With a valiant effort, the UMass men's track and field team wrapped up action at the A-10 Championships on Saturday. Rhode Island took home the A-10 team Title, while the Minutemen placed eighth of ten squads with 36 points.
Leading the way for UMass was the 4x800 meter relay team comprised of Thomas Mullen, Jared Reddy, Curt Owen, and Antony Taylor. The quad combined for a team time of 7:52.71, good enough to qualify for both the New England and IC4A Championships. UMass now has at least one relay team qualified for the NEC's in all three relay events.
Second-year Aaron Araujo was also a bright spot for coach Ken O'Brien as the mid-distance competitor recorded a readout of 49.59 in the 400 meter dash while falling in second place.
Stephen Bigelow was speedy as usual in the 60 meter hurdles by clocking in at 8.58, and taking home seventh place. Daniel Wu rose to the competitive occasion at URI with a mark of 44-6.75 in the men's triple jump. The leap was got Wu seventh overall.
The Minutemen will look forward to next weekend as the New England Championships approach on Feb. 24 and Feb. 25 at Boston University.
