AMHERST, Mass. - Michaela Streitfield of the UMass rowing team will be competing in the Maccabiah Games this summer. Streitfield was one of four collegiate rowers to be invited to the prestigious event.

The Maccabiah Games is an international Jewish athletic event that is held in Israel every four years and invites the top Jewish athletes from all around the world to compete.

Strietfield will be the first UMass rower to attend the games, though two women's swim team members have attended and men's basketball assistant coach Adam Ginsberg was the head coach of a 1996 Junior Maccabiah team.

So far this season Streitfield has been a leader of the team, taking gold medals in the single scull and quad at the Head of the Oklahoma and gold in the double and quad at the Head of the Fish. Last season she was named to the 2012 Atlantic 10 All-Conference team for her performance in the Varsity 8+.
