Underclassman Pace Minutemen In Day One Of Terrier

AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass men's swimming and diving team showed a great all-around team effort following day one of the Terrier Invitational from Competition Pool at the Boston University. It was the Minutemen underclassman that led the team with multiple top-five finishes.

Freshman Kyle Vieira was able to pick up the lone first-place finish for the Minutemen in day one. The Wrentham, Mass. native was able to take first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:32.42. Chris Inglis and Alessandro Bomprezzi were also able to put together great swims for the men in the 500 finishing with times of 4:33.67 and 4:34.31, good for second and fourth in the event.

The 200-yard IM saw four top-eight finishes with Michael Glenn leading the way with a fourth-place finish and a time of 1:53.45. Freshman Evan Sholudko was able to come in behind Glenn with a time of 1:54.81. Rounding out the top-eight for the Minutemen were Ryan Bobianski (seventh) and Tim O'Neil (eighth).

The men also saw four top-eight finishes in the 50-yard freestyle with freshman Wiktor Karpinski coming in second-place with a time of 21.22. Peter Sacco and John Conway finished three, four with time of 21.39 and 21.45, respectively. Erik Pfohl rounded out the bunch with a seventh-place finish and a time of 21.55.

The men will be back in action tomorrow morning with the prelims beginning at 10 a.m., and the finals starting up at 6 p.m.
