Blake Lucas Honored Among CFPA Weekly Kickers

AMHERST, Mass. - UMass football freshman place kicker Blake Lucas has been honored today as one of the College Football Performance Awards Kicker Of The Week honorable mention selections. Lucas hit a season-high three field goals in the win at Akron including a season-long of 35 yards in the Minutemen's 22-14 win. The freshman from Cochrane, Ga., also added an extra point for a team-high 10 points.

Florida State's Dustin Hopkins was the CFPA's National Placekicker of the Week. Joining Lucas on the Honorable Mention list were Brett Baer (Louisiana-Lafayette), Trevor Romaine (Oregon State), Brett Maher (Nebraska), Sam Ficken (Penn State), Cairo Santos (Tulane), Drew Alleman (LSU).

Lucas is now 5-for-6 (83.3%) this season on field goals. On Saturday at Akron, he hit from 23 yards, 26 yards and 35 yards.

UMass will return to action this Saturday as Buffalo visits Gillette Stadium. Kick-off is set for 3 PM and the game will be the annual Band Day featuring high school bands from around New England joining forces with the UMass Marching Band. Following the game there will also be a fireworks show prior to the Band's postgame concert.
