Men's Swim Takes Second At Dartmouth Invite

AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass men's swimming and diving team took second place this weekend at the Dartmouth invitational coming in behind host Dartmouth and finishing ahead of Bryant. The Minutemen finished with 1246.5 points, only 59 behind the winner Dartmouth. Everyone played a hand in the great finish for the Minutemen but there were standout performances by Chris Inglis, Joey Sbordon, Michael Glenn, Hao Luong and Jason Cook.
Inglis was apart of two new pool records over the weekend, first as a member of the 400-yard medley relay team of Luong, Glenn and Troy Nichols who finished with a time of 3:25.18 and then in the 200-yard freestyle where he touched the wall at 1:40.62. Inglis also took first in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 15:56.02 and finished second in the 500-yard freestyle (4:38.51) behind teammate Sbordon.
Sbordon was able to take first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:37.19. He was also able to take first in the 400-yard IM touching at 4:03.94.
Between the freshman Glenn and Luong, the two were able to pick up three first-place and three second-place finishes. Glenn took first in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard breaststroke with times of 59.09 and 2:05.96, respectively. He also captured second in the 200 IM with a time of 1:54.96.
Luong was able to take first in the 100-yard backstroke touching the wall at 50.88. He also took second in the 200 back (1:52.15) and the 200 fly (1:56.63).
Jason Cook swept the one and three-meter diving events with scores of 309.00 and 323.18, respectively. Alexander Merkulov took third in the one-meter dive with a score of 274.50.
The Minutemen will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 4 as they welcome in A-10 rival Fordham for senior day. The meet is scheduled to start at 1:00 pm and is going to be aired on CBS 3 Now and UMass AllAccess.
