Johnson With Second Academic All-American Honor

TOWSON, Md. - Kevin Johnson (Ludlow, Mass.), a senior on the UMass men's track and field team has been elected to the Capital One Academic All-American second team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Tuesday. This is the second year in a row that Johnson has received the honor. He was elected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American third team at the end of last season.

Johnson had an impactful 2011 season, setting the fifth all-time record for UMass in the 10,000 meter run at the IC4A Championship Meet where he came in third place. He also qualified for the 5,000 meter run.

With a 4.0 grade-point average as a Food Science major, Johnson has collected multiple academic honors. He has been selected to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference teams on four occasions, twice in cross country (2008 and 2009) and twice in outdoor track & field (2009, 2011) The Dean's List student was named the UMass Male Fall Scholar-Athlete in 2009, as well.
