Araujo Picks Up First Career A-10 Honor

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - After several combined weeks of solid performances for the UMass men's track and field team, Aaron Araujo was honored by the Atlantic 10 Conference on Monday afternoon. The New Bedford, Mass. native picked up the Rookie Male Performer of the Week for his performance at last weekend's UMass Pre-Conference Meet.

Araujo was the top hurdler in the 400 meter hurdles at the UMass home meet (4/30), finishing in 53.74. The time was a new personal career best for the freshman, along with being good enough to qualify for the IC4A Championships. Araujo's finish, helped lead the Minutemen to a first place team finish at the meet, tallying a season high 195.5 points for the squad.

As of the weekend of April 30, Araujo sits as the top 400 meter hurdler for UMass, along with ranking fifth best in the A-10 Conference. The freshman competitor also ran in the 4x400 meter relay at the UMass Pre-Conference Meet, helping the UMass quad to a fourth place finish in 3:22.45. The team's relay time was the best all season for the Minutemen.

Araujo and the Minutemen hit the track once again this weekend for the highly anticipated A-10 Championships in Charlotte, N.C.
