Track Stars Qualify For NCAA East Regionals

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Due to superb performances throughout the 2011 outdoor campaign, two Minutemen and two Minutewomen have qualified for the NCAA East Regional Championships for the UMass track and field programs. The meet is set to be held in Bloomington, Ind. from May 26-28 at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex on the campus of Indiana University.
Following the IC4A Championships, Sean Duncan ranks the highest of any Minuteman or Minutewoman nationally. The senior ranks 18th in the NCAA East Region in the steeplechase, and will compete in the event while holding a season best time of 8:52.85.
Next up is Daniel Barry who comes in at 62nd in the 1500 meter run following his UMass historical performance at the IC4A Championships as well. Barry will compete in the 1500 meter run in Indiana, holding a season and career best time of 3:47.12.
On the women's side, Karen Roa leads the way, ranked 32nd in the East Region in the women's steeplechase. Her season best time of 10:31.28 set at last weekend's New England Championships will be tested starting May 26 at Regionals.
Last but not least for UMass will be Stephanie Aguguo in the women's triple jump. The senior jumper, who posted a season best mark of 41-3.75 at the A-10 Championships, will compete in the triple jump at the Regional Meet.
Ken O'Brien and Julie LaFreniere will be sending their competitors to Indiana for the May 26-28 Regional Championships.
