NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - For their outstanding performances on the track and in the field, combined with academic progress above the norm, Sean Busch and Kevin Johnson were named to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference Team on Thursday morning. The news out of Newsport News, Va. included naming Darius Law of Charlotte the Male Student-Athlete of the Year for the outdoor season, the identical award Busch won for the 2011 indoor campaign earlier this year.
At the A-10 Championships Sean Busch brought home his fourth career A-10 Title in the men's pole vault. Busch reached a height of 15-9, good enough to help UMass place fourth at the Conference Meet. The Stow, Mass. native now holds two A-10 indoor pole vault Titles, along with two outdoor Titles. As an Electrical Engineering Major, Busch holds a solid 3.72 grade point average.
Senior, Kevin Johnson, placed fifth in the 5000 meter run at the A-10 Championships, finishing in 14:45.15. The 2009-2010 Academic All-American competed at this past weekend's IC4A Championships as well, where he set the fifth best time in UMass history in the 10,000 meter run. Johnson boasts a perfect 4.0 GPA as a Food Science Major.
The remainder of the season for the men's track and field squad lies with the NCAA East Regional Championships to be held May 26-28.
