AMHERST, Mass. - UMass field hockey held its annual banquet on Saturday just prior to the annual alumnae game at Garber Field. The Minutewomen, their coaches, parents, and supporters used the occasion to commemorate the 2010 team's run to the Atlantic 10 Championship and the NCAA Tournament and handed out team awards.

Head Coach Carla Tagliente, Assistant Coaches Roz Ellis and Katelyn Orlando, and former coach Justine Sowry all took part in the event that celebrated the program's 15-8 season that included a perfect 7-0 record in Atlantic 10 play, its 12th A-10 title and third in four seasons, and 22nd NCAA Tournament berth.

Seniors Jaime Bourazeris, Katie Kelly, Courtney Mayerick, and Makaela Potts were also recognized for their contributions in their four years that brought three conference titles and three NCAA appearances to the program.

The UMass coaching staff recognized and thanked those that helped make the successful season possible. The opportunity was also taken to give out the team's annual awards. The award recipients were:

Non-Glam Player of the Year: Katie Kelly
Awarded to a player that does the hard, non-rewarded work, tackles back, chases, hustles, and produces turnovers.

Marissa Factora Unsung Hero Award: Elizabeth Karns
Awarded by the coaching staff to a member of the field hockey team who exemplifies principles, direction and persistence in pursuit of field hockey excellence at UMass. A role model that contributes to all aspects and accepts responsibility with tremendous pride and honor.

Kathy Phelan "Heart of the Team" Award: Nicole Cordero
Awarded to the athlete whose determination, attitude, hard work, consistency and reliability are the "pulse" of the program. With a relentless work ethic, an unyielding desire, and a huge HEART, this leader by example demonstrates the tremendous difference one individual can make.

Senior Award: Lindsay Bowman
Awarded by the senior class to a first-year member of the team who provides a positive contribution to the team's philosophy and whose individual character encourages the future direction and excellence of UMass Field Hockey.

Supporter of the Year Award: Chris Widdall

Following the banquet, 21 alumnae from various eras of UMass field hockey competed against the current squad - and time - in the annual Alumnae Game.
