CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - It was a tale of two halves on Sunday afternoon at Jack Barry Field in Cambridge. After Boston University scored two goals and controlled the first half, UMass dominated the second half, scoring once, but was unable to get the equalizer as the Minutewomen (1-3) fell to the Terriers (4-0), 2-1.
Katie Kelly scored UMass' lone goal, a redirect off a Thando Zono pass on a penalty corner in the 42nd minute. It was Kelly's team-leading third goal of the season and 28th of the senior captain's career. Zono's assist was the first of the season for the junior transfer.
UMass outshot the Terriers, 6-4, in the second half and drew six penalty corners in that half while not allowing one to BU. That came after the Terriers outshot the Minutewomen, 9-1 in the first half and outcornered them, 4-1.
BU got on the board with a quick goal just 50 seconds into the game when Allie Dolce put in an Andrea Greene pass in transition. The Terriers made it 2-0 when Jacinda McLeod scored on a penalty corner in the 15th minute.
Alesha Widdall made five saves in goal for UMass, while Julie Collins made three key saves in the second half for BU after Amanda Smith played the first half in goal.
All four of UMass' games this season have been decided by one goal.
The Minutewomen return to action on Saturday when they host top 10 ranked Connecticut at Garber Field in a 1 p.m. game.
