Eastern Collegiate Invitational Concludes At Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Eastern Collegiate Invitational concluded at Army on Sunday and a successful weekend by the UMass tennis team was highlighted by Julia Comas winning the Flight B singles championship and Jessica Podlofsky winning the Flight D singles title. The team of Kaitlyn Carpenter and Jocelyn Providence reached the finals of Flight B doubles.
After winning two matches each on Friday and Saturday, the sophomore Comas completed her perfect weekend on Sunday by defeating West Virginia's Emily Mathis, 6-3; 6-4, to win the Flight B title.
Podlofsky won two matches each on Friday and Saturday as well to reach the Flight D finals on Sunday. The freshman then defeated West Virginia's Melis Tanik, 7-5; 6-0, in Sunday's finals to give UMass two singles crowns.
The Carpenter-Providence team won four matches in the Flight B doubles to reach the Sunday finals where they fell to the Amherst College team of Mimi Bell and Jen Newman in a tight match, 9-8.
The Minutewomen return home to host two dual matches this week. On Thursday, UMass hosts Holy Cross at 1:30 p.m. and on Friday, the Minutewomen host Fordham in a noon match. Both will take place at the Mullins Courts.
