AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass field hockey team (0-2) travels east for two games in the Boston area this weekend. On Friday, the Minutewomen face Northeastern at 2 p.m., and on Sunday, they take on Boston University at 1 p.m. UMass is looking to break into the win column after two one-goal losses to ranked teams last weekend.

Last Weekend's Action
After battling to a scoreless tie through the first 65 minutes of action, Emily Kozniuk scored off a penalty stroke to give No. 9 Boston College a 1-0 victory over UMass in the season-opener for both sides on Friday afternoon at Garber Field.

The Eagles were awarded a penalty stroke after a UMass foul in the circle with 4:30 left. Kozniuk's stroke made its way inside the left post to break the scoreless tie.

UMass pressured in the closing minutes, earning two penalty corners in the final three minutes. After not being able to get a shot on the first corner, Makaela Potts' blast missed wide right with under a minute left.

After falling behind, 2-0, early in the second half, Katie Kelly scored with 12:49 left and UMass (0-2) pressured down the stretch, but was unable to come up with the equalizer in a 2-1 loss to No. 17 Indiana (1-1) on Sunday afternoon at Garber Field. Brooke Borneman and Brenna Moeljadi scored for the Hoosiers, while Jaime Bourazeris assisted on Kelly's goal.

The Minutewomen applied the pressure late in the game, earning six penalty corners in the final seven minutes, including three with under a minute to go. After Kelly's shot was blocked on the first of the three corners with time expired, UMass was unable to get a shot off on the ensuing two corners, with the game ending on an Indiana clear.

Kelly's goal came at the 12:49 mark after a strong move into the circle by Makaela Potts won UMass a corner. Off the insertion, Bourazeris swept a pass to Kelly in front of the net that she redirected into the goal to cut the deficit to 2-1 and give the senior captain the team's first goal of the season and the 26th of her career.
