DEDHAM, Mass. - The second of the championship meets this outdoor season came to a conclusion on Saturday for the UMass men's track and field team. The event was hosted in Dedham, Mass. on the Northeastern University track and field facility. In the end the Minutemen placed ninth overall among a field of 39 teams. The men scored a total of 30 points to conclude the weekend's proceedings.

Working as a team, the 4x800 meter relay team consisting of Ryan DiOrio, Joe Doyle, Scott VanderMolen, and Daniel Barry placed first overall. The quad combined for a time of 7:34.79, earning an impressive ten points. At last weekend's A-10 Championships, the same relay team qualified for next weekend's IC4A Championships.

Also scoring for UMass was Sonny Gamble in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. The senior crossed the line at a season's personal best time of 9:17.13, placing third overall. Gamble's finish earned the squad six points in total.

Another relay team had a solid finish on Saturday. This time the 4x400 meter relay unit combined for a time of 3:18.15, taking 11th place overall. In the discuss throw, David McKenna threw for a distance of 140-02, good enough for tenth place.

The Minutemen will be back in action next weekend as the team gets set for the IC4A Championships in Princeton, N.J. Thus far UMass has produced 12 IC4A qualifiers. The start time for each day of the three day event is 10 am. The meet will run over the course of May 14, 15, and 16.
