Schedule and Lane Assignments

AMHERST, Mass. - Coming off a weekend which saw the Minutewomen finish second behind Atlantic 10 rival Rhode Island, UMass Rowing will travel to Worcester to compete at Holy Cross. In addition to the Crusaders, Massachusetts will race against MIT, New Hampshire and Williams. The first race is scheduled to begin at 9:10 AM from Lake Quinsigamond.

Heavy rains across western Massachusetts during March have caused high waters on the Connecticut River, forcing UMass to make adjustments to its practice schedule. The Minutewomen will practice on the water at Holy Cross Friday before making the trip back to Worcester on Saturday.

Projected Lineup:
Varsity 8+: Cox- Samantha Schnoerr, Jennifer Coyne, Kelsey Schachter, Alexandra DiMatteo, Jessica Stern, Samantha Smith, Amanda Doolin, Meredith Kearney, Meghan Rodgers.

Junior Varsity 8+: Cox- Molly Bogle, Elizabeth Euiler, Chelsea Wakeham, Emily Grogan, Katelyn Allocco, Rachel Spielberg, Michaela Streitfield, Megan Donovan, Ana Tocco.

Third Varsity 8+: Cox- Em Chiu, Teresa O'Brien, Kathryn Kern, Kristen Gahagan, Ellis Brewster, Kristin Jones, Robin Snoey, Jennifer Dolan, Kimberly Patrick.

Varsity 4+A: Cox:- Carly Payne, Emily Boucher, Kathryn Kern, Teresa O'Brien, Beth Paret.

Varsity 4+B: Cox- Samantha Schnoerr, Isabella Donadio, Allison Donzanti, Amy Nash, Kimberly Patrick.

Scouting the Competition:
• Holy Cross, who was picked to finish fourth in the Patriot League Preseason Coaches Poll, had a two-day race last weekend at home on the 2000M course of Lake Quinsigamond. On Saturday, the Crusaders raced their First and Second Varsity Eights, finishing first (6:50.77 and 7:00.00), one and eight seconds ahead of Mt. Holyoke. Their Novice Eight placed third (8:02.25) behind Mt. Holyoke and Wesleyan.
• In Sunday's competition, Holy Cross raced three Varsity Eight boats, winning each heat with times of 8:01.94, 8:15.59 and 8:50.49. The Crusader Novice Eight boat placed second (8:40.26) four seconds behind Smith College.
• MIT is currently in its first season in the Patriot League, and was picked to finish third in the preseason poll. Saturday will be the first spring event for the Tigers, who had a very strong fall season.
• In the Green Monster Regatta in November the MIT novice boat finished seventh, two spots ahead of UMass. The Tigers also finished two slots ahead of the Minutewomen in October's Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston.
• Williams is currently ranked first in the nation in Division III according the the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association/USRowing DIII Poll.

Last Time Out:
• The Minutewomen participated in the Yankee Cup last weekend, finishing second in all four of their races to finish just below A-10 rival Rhode Island for the points trophy. UMass raced in two Varsity Eight heats, and a Varsity Four and Novice Eight race.
• With rough waters surrounding the midway mark of the course, cold weather and strong headwinds, the Novice Four, Second Varsity Four and Quad races were cancelled.
• The Rams completed the Varsity Eight races by winning margins of 10 seconds and 18 seconds, with UMass finishing in second ahead of New Hampshire and Connecticut. The Varsity Eight boats were steered by coxswains Samantha Schnoerr (8:04.6) and Carly Payne (8:35.1).
• Rhode Island narrowly took the Varsity Four race, finishing with a time of 9:09.2 while the Minutewomen were right behind them with a finish time of 9:10.6. Connecticut closed out the day with a first place finish in the Novice Eight (8:51.1), while the Massachusetts boat was a close second with a time of 8:52.8.

Dietz Elected To National Rowing Hall of Fame:
• UMass Head Coach Jim Dietz was inducted into the National Rowing Hall of Fame on March 21 at Mystic Seaport. Dietz competed in two Olympics in the men's single in 1972 and 1976, where he finished fifth and seventh, respectively. He was also a member of the 1980 United States Olympic team in the men's double.
• As an athlete, Coach Dietz was a five-time member of the U.S. World Championship team in the 1x and 2x, and won a silver medal in the single at the 1974 Lecerne World Championships.
• Dietz won more than 30 United States national titles between 1968 and 1983, and 25 Canadian national titles.
• Dietz is the only rowing coach in UMass History, and has guided his teams to 13 Atlantic 10 titles and was named the A-10 Coach of the Year on seven different occasions.

Atlantic 10 Championships Set For Mid-April:
• For the 15th straight season, Massachusetts will compete in the Atlantic 10 Championships, scheduled for April 17 in Pennsauken, N.J. The Minutewomen are the defending conference champions, and will look to capture their 14th all-time title.

20 Rowers Named To A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll:
• Bernadette V. McGlade, Commissioner of the Atlantic 10, announced that 103 UMass student-athletes have been named to the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll following the Fall 2009 semester. Among those, 20 members of the rowing team were included on the list.
• To be an Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll honoree, a student-athlete must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or better. The A-10 named nearly 1,200 athletes to this list.
• The Minutewomen were led by the junior and freshman classes, which had six student-athletes from each class, while the senior and sophomore classes had four representatives each.
