AMHERST, Mass. - Playing in their second match in less than 24 hours, the UMass women's tennis team came up with an impressive win against the Saints of Siena College Saturday afternoon, winning 7-0 in their home opener at Bay Road Tennis Club. UMass, who fell to No. 44 Yale on the road Friday night, bounced-back with a tremendous effort, improving their record to 4-1 in dual matches, and 1-1 on the spring.

The Minutewomen were nothing but impressive in their home opener, winning every single match on the afternoon. UMass started it off with three doubles wins. Playing first doubles, Candynce Boney and captain Maude Lecluyse were very sharp, losing just one game to Jasleen Sandhu and Nicole Ross as they went on to the 8-1 victory. Boney and Lecluyse set the tone, while on the next court, Julia Comas and Magdalena Ploch took care of Siena's Danielle Crill and Elora Benfer, 8-2. Tanisha Hodgson and Jocelyn Providence finished off the doubles sweep, as the two claimed their second-straight win in third doubles with an 8-4 victory Saturday.

The Minutewomen continued their dominance in singles, as the squad did not lose a single set on the day, defeating each of the Saints in straight-sets. Ploch, who entered the weekend ranked No. 10 in the region, knocked-off Sandhu, 6-1, 6-1 in first singles. Comas and Crill played each other tough in the first set, with Comas prevailing, 6-4, before taking the second set, 6-1. The rest of the squad would not lose more than two games in a set, as Boney, Lecluyse, Carpenter and Providence all registered solid wins.

"We are very pleased with the way the team played today. We came out with the same focus and energy as yesterday and that's really our goal for the whole season; to come out with the same effort and treat every team the same no matter who they are. This is a good weekend split for us," said head coach Judy Dixon following the match.

The team will be back on the court next Friday when they travel to take on Long Island at the USTA Tennis Center in New York.
