CINCINNATI, Ohio - Former UMass All-American safety Jeromy Miles has been promoted to the active roster by the Cincinnati Bengals after spending the entire season on the team's practice squad. Miles will be the sixth UMass product to play in the NFL this season. He will be eligible to play on Thursday night (in No. 45) as the Bengals take on James Ihedigbo and the Jets on Thanksgiving night. He played in five preseason games for the Bengals and made six tackles.

To get Miles on the roster the Bengals waived defensive end Victor Adeyanju, a fifth-year player who signed as a free agent last Thursday. Adeyanju was inactive for last week's game vs. Buffalo.

Miles was a decorated senior captain free safety. He was named a 2009 Walter Camp First Team All-American, 2009 CAA All-Conference First Team, and 2009 New England Writer All-Star. He was a Buck Buchanan Award Candidate as top FCS defensive player and a 2009 Preseason Consensus First Team All-American. He started 47 games in a row, including all 36 games at UMass. As a senior, he tied for fourth on team in tackles with 62 (5.6 per game), also two interceptions, two fumbles forced and five passes defended.

Miles joins these UMass players who have played in the NFL this season: Ihedigbo and Vladimir Ducasse with the New York Jets, Victor Cruz with the New York Giants, Jeremy Cain with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Jeremy Horne with the Kansas City Chiefs along Matt Lawrence with the Baltimore Ravens, who has been hurt all season.
