AMHERST, Mass. - The National Field Hockey Coaches Association has announced its 2010 Division I Senior All-Star Team with UMass midfielder Katie Kelly being one the 34 players from across the country to receive the honor. The two-year captain led the Minutewomen with 11 goals and nine assists for 31 points.
The 2010 Division I Senior All-Star Game will be played on Saturday, Nov. 20 at the University of Maryland during Final Four weekend. The Senior Game participants will face off against the U.S. Women's National Team as well as against each other in a series of four 25-minute sessions.
Kelly, a 2009 NFHCA All-Northeast Region and Atlantic 10 All-Conference first-teamer, ranks in the top 10 all-time at UMass in career goals, assists, and points. The Dedham, Mass. native is sixth all-time in points with 93, tied for seventh in goals with Pam Moryl (1981-84) with 36, and eighth in assists with 21.
Kelly, who notched five game-winning goals this season, is the fifth UMass player to be named a Senior All-Star in Justine Sowry's four years as head coach of the Minutewomen. She joins Cher King (2009), Katelyn Orlando (2008), Mary Shea (2008), and Erin O'Brien (2007).
Kelly led the Minutewomen to their 12th Atlantic 10 Championship and 22nd NCAA Tournament appearance in 2010. The No. 18 Minutewomen earned an at-large bid to the NCAA field of 16 and fell at No. 1 Maryland, 4-2 on Nov. 13.
