Lightweight 8+ Grabs Seventh At Foot Of The Charles

BOSTON - The Lightweight 8+ finished in seventh place to lead the UMass rowing team at the Foot of the Charles Regatta in Boston on Saturday in the team's final race of the 2010 fall season. The Minutewomen competed in three races during the day, entering multiple boats in the Varsity Four and Novice Eight competitions. UMass Rowing will be off until they travel to Deland, Fla. for its annual winter training trip, beginning January 6.
Racing against strong competition in the likes of Brown and Atlantic 10 foe Rhode Island, the Lightweight 8+ managed to place seventh in its race with a time of 13:47.10, just seven seconds out of a top-five finish.
With 49 boats entered in the Varsity Four, two Massachusetts boats finished 32nd and 46th with times of 14:56.80 and 15:37.00, respectively in a highly contested race. Closing out the day for the Minutewomen was the Novice Eight where UMass claimed 12th (14:34.00), 21st (16:06.90) and 23rd (18:50.60).
