Johnson Propels Minutemen To Ninth At NCAA Regionals

MADISON, Conn. - Slipping into ninth place at the highly competitive NCAA Regional Championships on Saturday was Ken O'Brien's UMass men's cross country team. The Minutemen faced a strong field of 35 teams, which included #4 Iona and #14 Syracuse. Tallying 264 were the Amherst harriers, who competed against 229 male athletes.
Ranking first on the team for a third straight week was the outstanding Kevin Johnson in 36th overall. The Ludlow native crossed the line at 31:02.9. Falling just three spots behind Johnson, while placing second for UMass, was Andrew Mulvaney. The senior recorded a mark of 31:07.1.
David Johnson and Robert Deegan were next up for UMass in third and fourth on the team, while placing 46th and 67th overall. The duo finished with times of 31:16.0 and 31:35.6 respectively.
Rounding out the Minutemen scorers after missing the A-10 Championships (11/30), was Daniel Barry in 76th with a time of 31:48.9.

The men's cross country squad will close out its season next Saturday at the annual IC4A Championships in Bronx, N.Y. The start time is TBA.
