AMHERST, Mass. - Makaela Potts was named UMass Athlete of the Week on Monday after a standout week in which the UMass senior defender led the Minutewomen (9-6) to a 3-0 record, including two wins over A-10 foes. The Sydney, Australia native finished the week with two goals, one a game-winner, and a game-winning assist.
In Tuesday's 5-4 double-overtime win at Dartmouth in UMass' final non-conference game of the season, Potts scored with 6:06 left in regulation to give UMass the lead.
In Friday's 2-1 victory over Lock Haven in a matchup of undefeated teams in A-10 play, Potts was the hero of the comeback win, scoring the game-winning goal in the second half, her fourth goal in the last three games.
In Sunday's 2-1 overtime win at Richmond, Potts set up the OT game-winner by Thando Zono, earning the assist. As always, Potts was the key member of the UMass defense.
Potts led the team with 15 shots in the three games last week.
For the season, she has 12 points on five goals and two assists.
The Minutewomen play their final two home games this weekend when they host Temple on Friday at 3 p.m. and then take on Saint Joseph's on Senior Day at Garber Field on Sunday at noon.
