AMHERST, Mass. - Ben Arikian scored in the 14th minute of play, but Dayton equalized midway through the second half to force a 1-1 double-overtime draw against the UMass men's soccer team on Sunday at Rudd Field. It was the sixth draw of the season for the Minutemen and seventh double overtime match.

UMass moves to 2-3-6 overall and 1-0-1 in the Atlantic 10, while Dayton is now 4-4-3 overall and 0-0-2 in league play. The Minutemen will face A-10 and New England rival Rhode Island next Saturday night (7 PM) in Kingston. It will be the first road match for UMass since Sept. 11.

The game with Dayton wrapped up an 8-game home stand for UMass which posted a 2-2-4 record at Rudd Field. The Minutemen will play the next three games on the road.

Arikian's goal gives him seven points on the season as he entered the match with a team-high five assists. Bryant Craft sent a cross from the right flank to Arikian who fired from 18-yards out.

The Minutemen took the 1-0 lead into halftime after outshooting the Flyers 9-to-4 for the half.

The tide turned for Dayton in the second half, however, as the Flyers outshot UMass 10-to-5. Oskar Kretzinger scored in the 66th minute tucking a shot inside the left post to tie the game at 1-1.

A total of four yellow cards were issued in the game - three in the second half and one in the second overtime period.

UMass keeper Chris Piekos made four saves as did Dayton keeper Tyler Picard. For Piekos, it was the seventh of his nine starts to extend beyond regulation and dropped his goals-against-average to 0.95 for the season.

Piekos made two of his four saves in the first overtime period. His first came before a flurry of three consecutive corner kicks for the Flyers.

His second was with 10 seconds remaining in the OT period.

Arikian had the lone shot for either side in the second overtime frame, but it was blocked.
