Box Score

AMHERST, Mass. - The visiting Dartmouth Big Green scored six straight goals after UMass scored the game's first goal, and despite two late goals, the No. 19 Minutewomen field hockey team fell in their final non-conference game of the season, 6-3. Makaela Potts led UMass with one goal and one assist, while Nicole Cordero and Kim Young added a goal each. UMass falls to 10-8 overall, while Dartmouth moves to 8-7.

UMass took an early lead on Potts' team-leading ninth goal of the season. Her blast from the top of the circle beat Dartmouth goalie Jenna Stearns high-left and put the Minutewomen on top 9:20 into the game.

The Bog Green offense came alive, scoring three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead into halftime. Three more goals in the first 10:10 of the second half made it a commanding 6-1 lead for Dartmouth.

UMass scored two goals to draw within three, from Cordero and Young, but could not cut any more into the deficit. Cordero's third goal of the season came in the 47th minute when she tipped in a Potts shot from the top of the circle. Young scored the first goal of her career in the 52nd minute when she scored off a penalty corner on assists by Christine Cutry and Nikki Panciocco.

Sarah Williams made her first start of the season in goal for UMass, playing the first 41:03 and making three saves while allowing five goals. She was relieved by Alesha Widdall for the final 28:57. The sophomore made five stops and allowed one goal.

Stearns finished with five saves for the Big Green as she improved to 2-0 on the season.

Kelly Hood and Samantha McPherson led the way for Dartmouth with two goals apiece.

For the game, Dartmouth held a 21-15 edge in shots, while penalty corners were even, 6-6.

UMass concludes the regular season at home this weekend with two critical Atlantic 10 Conference games. The Minutewomen face La Salle on Friday at 3 p.m. and then host West Chester on Sunday at noon for Senior Day at Garber Field.
