John Hoogasian Named UMass Track/Cross Country Assistant Coach

AMHERST, Mass. - Spencer, Mass. native John Hoogasian has been named an assistant coach for men's and women's track/cross country at the University of Massachusetts it was announced on Wednesday. Hoogasian comes to UMass with over 37 years of coaching experience at high school and collegiate levels and, most recently was an assistant coach at Holy Cross, a position he held from 1991 through 2008.
In addition to his work with the Crusaders' track and field/cross country program, Hoogasian served a number of roles at his alma mater Worcester State College. He was Head Men's and Women's Cross Country coach (1975-1991), Assistant Indoor Track coach (1975-1983), and Head Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field coach (1983-1990). Hoogasian continues to work as Regional Chairperson at the U.S.A. Track and Field Pole Vault Development, which he began in 1991.
He currently works as Executive Office in the Soldier Requirements Division of the United States Army Infantry Center in Fort Benning, Ga., and is a veteran of four mobilizations of the Global War on Terror under Operation Enduring Freedom, Noble Eagle and Iraqi Freedom.
Hoogasian graduated in 1971 from Worcester State College with a B.S. in Social Studies. He later received his master's in General Education from Worcester State in 1974 before receiving his C.A.G.S in Educational Administration and Leadership and his PHD in Educational Administration and Leadership from the University of Connecticut.
