Box Score

ARLINGTON, Va. - With freshman Nick Serino (Saugus, Mass.) on the mound for the Minutemen, UMass (8-11,3-9 A-10) defeated George Washington (16-13,5-4 A-10) 4-0 to close out a three-game series at Barcroft Park. Sophomore Mike Donato (East Hartford, Conn.) led the way for the Minutemen going 2-for-3, while senior captain Bryan Garrity (Peabody, Mass.) went 1-for-2 with 2 RBI against the Colonials. Serino (2-1) lasted 6 1/3 innings allowing only five hits and striking out seven to earn the win. Junior Mitchell Eilenberg (Brooklyn, N.Y.) entered the game in the seventh to earn his first save of the season. Serino's ERA dropped from 3.45 to 2.45 on the season, while Eilenberg went from an ERA of 5.03 to 4.48.

After three scoreless innings, UMass put up the first runs of the day on the scoreboard. Sophomore Brian Baudinet (Watertown, Conn.) started out the fourth inning with a solo home run to left field. After senior Ryan Franczek (Chicopee, Mass.) was hit by a pitch, junior Adam Tempesta (Brockton, Mass.) grounded out to first base for a sac bunt. With one out, junior Jim Macdonald (Cheshire, Conn.) singled to right field to score Franczek from second to take a 2-0 lead.

The UMass bats struck again in the top of the ninth with two more runs. With two outs, Donato singled to right field to put runners at the corners. Garrity doubled to right center field to score Macdonald from third and Donato from first. UMass took a 4-0 lead and looked to add more runs, but the inning ended with freshman Kyle Multner (Peabody, Mass.) flying out to right field.

Despite five hits on the day, the Colonials were unable to score a run. George Washington's Pat Lehman (4-1) pitched the full game and received his first loss of the season for the Colonials.

UMass will return home on Tuesday to face the UConn Huskies. First pitch is scheduled for 3 P.M.
