UMass Rowing Competes In Only Home Regatta Of The Season

Amherst, Mass. - The UMass women's rowing team will host a four-team regatta against Colgate, Columbia, and Holy Cross this Saturday. The races begin at 10:30 a.m. on the Connecticut River in Hadley. The best place to view the race is from the West Street break wall. Last season, the Minutewomen defeated Coast Guard and New Hampshire in their opening home match. The last time UMass faced each of these teams, the Minutewomen defeated Colgate at Orchard Beach Lagoon in 2007, fell to Columbia in 2006, and outdistanced Holy Cross in 2004.
There will be five races on Saturday, as UMass enters a varsity eight, junior varsity eight, novice eight, lightweight four, and open four. Varsity's race begins 10:30 a.m.
The UMass boats will include the following rowers and coxswains.
Varsity 8: Liz Euiler, Julie Markus, Sarah Maesan, Erin Kelly, Airlina Burrill, Rachael Nealer, Claire Champine, Ali DiMatteo, and coxswain Molly Morgan.
Lightweight 4: Liz Tran, Steph Stark, Chelsea Wakeham, Jess Romain, and coxswain Molly Bogle.
Open 4: Karen Plevock, Meredith Kearney, Amy Nash, Chelsea Finnigan, and coxswain Molly Morgan.
Novice 8: Jennifer Coyne, Ana Tocco, Megan Donovan, Emily Hagan, Rachel Spielberg, Ellis Brewster, Jen Dolan, Ellie Brazenall and coxswain Carley Payne.
Junior Varsity 8: Andrea Morand, Haley Fitzgerald, Terri O'Brien, Kelly Barrett, Dani Vollman, Amanda Mawn, Samm Smith, Kelsey Schachter, and coxswain Dana Pulda.
Directions to the West Street break wall are:
From the North, South and West: Take I-91 to route 9 East. As you come in to Hadley, make a left turn on to West Street. It will dead end in to the break wall.
From the East: Take route 9 West. Then make a right turn on to West Street. It will dead in to the break wall.
The Minutewomen continue their quest for a 13th straight Atlantic 10 championship with this home meet. Next weekend, they will compete for the Knecht Cup in Camden, New Jersey on Saturday and Sunday.
