Amherst, Mass. - Three UMass rowers were named to the Atlantic 10 Academic All Conference Team. Junior Airlina Burrill (Eastham, Mass.), senior Sarah Marsan (Cincinnati, Ohio), and senior Amy Rayla (Still River, Mass.) earned the academic honors in voting conducted among the Conference's sports information directors.

Saint Joseph's Debbie Bateman was named the Atlantic 10 Student-Athlete of the Year. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average and be an important component of the team.

Airlina Burrill has earned a 3.64 GPA in kinesiology. Her boat-mate, Sarah Marsan maintains a 3.68 average as a marketing major. The two helped earn a gold medal in the Quad race at the Atlantic 10 Championships, finishing in 7:47.7 and beating Duquesne by 26 seconds. They also helped the Varsity Eight to a third place finish at A-10's, with a time of 7:12.3.

Amy Rayla, a member of Commonwealth College, studies biology. She currently maintains a 3.84 grade point average. At A-10's, she raced in the lightweight four to a fifth place finish with a time of 8:56.3. Providing key leadership to the younger rowers, Rayla also finished fourth at last year's A-10 Championship with the lightweight four to help the Minutewomen earn their 12th title.

This upcoming weekend, UMass will travel back to Camden, N.J. to compete in the ECAC Championships. Last year, the Minutewomen took three silver medals in the event.
