Women's Basketball Holds Annual Banquet

AMHERST, Mass. - The 2007-08 University of Massachusetts women's basketball annual awards banquet was held Sunday, April 13 in the Massachusetts Room of the Mullins Center. Kate Mills was the recipient of the Jack Leaman Award, the team MVP as voted upon by the coaches. Alisha Tatham received the first ever Christel Zullo Spirit Award. Pam Rosanio was awarded the game ball after scoring her 1,000th career point in the season opener against Vermont. Whitney McDonald was also honored for her career at UMass.
Mills was the recipient of the Jack Leaman Award. The award is given annually to the unofficial team MVP as voted upon by the coaches. Mills was named to the 2008 Atlantic 10 Second Team All-Conference following the completion of the regular season. Mills finished the regular season third in the conference in scoring and blocks, second in free throw percentage, fifth in field goal percentages, and ninth in rebounding. Mills was named A-10 Player of the Week a conference-leading four times this season. She finished her career as the UMass all-time leading shot blocker and fourth on the all-time scoring list.
This season, Rosanio joined UMass all-time leading scorer Sue Peters (`80) as the only players in school history with 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, and 300 assists in a career. Rosanio ended her career at UMass having played 3,896 minutes, scoring 1,466 points, 350 rebounds, and 306 assists. Rosanio finished fifth in the Atlantic 10 in scoring, eighth in field goal percentage, 10th in free throw percentage, and 14th in assists. She has played more minutes than any player in UMass history.
Tatham was the first recipient of the first ever Christel Zullo Spirit Award for the player that, in the view of her teammates, best exemplifies the spirit, heart, and loyalty for which Zullo was known. The award was presented by Zullo's former teammates Michele Pytko (`90) and Beth (Wilbor) Garry (`89). On senior night, Tatham logged the first double-double of her career with career-highs in points (15) and rebounds (14). She finished her career having played in 116 games.
Each senior was honored by being introduced by one of the coaches and being presented with a framed jersey with name-plate. Whitney McDonald was introduced by Karleena Tobin, Alisha Tatham by Jodi Culbertson, Pam Rosanio by Jada Pierce, and Kate Mills by Mary Ciuk.
