Baseball Travels To St. Bonaventure For Atlantic 10 Action

AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass baseball team will hit the road this weekend when they travel to New York to take on Atlantic 10 rival the St. Bonaventure Bonnies. The Minutemen are coming off a split week after falling to UConn at home and defeating Harvard on the road in round one of the Beanpot. UMass is currently 11th in conference standings, while St. Bonaventure is seventh place. Live stats of all three games will be available on Gametracker at UMassAthletics.com.
Scouting UMass (9-12, 3-6 A-10)
• Jim Macdonald (Cheshire, Conn.) is currently on a four game hitting-streak for the Minutemen and is hitting .316 on the season.
• Brian Baudinet (Watertown, Conn.) is on a three game hitting streak for UMass. Baudinet leads the team in batting (.361) and homeruns (5). So far this season, Baudinet has reached base every game on either a hit or a walk.
• Adam Tempesta (Brockton, Mass.) leads the club with 18 RBIs, while Mike Donato (East Hartford, Conn.) leads the team with eight doubles.
• The offense is hitting .271 after 21 games this season.
• Nick Serino (Saugus, Mass.) and Mitchell Clegg (Woburn, Mass.) lead the Minutemen in pitching. Serino, who ranks fourth in the A-10 with a 2.45 ERA, has posted a 2-1 record after making six appearances on the season. Clegg has posted a 2.97 ERA on the season and has gone 1-2 on the season. Clegg ranks second in the A-10 for opposing batting average (.211)
• Overall, the team is posting an ERA of 4.91 (97 ER / 177.2 IP).
Scouting St. Bonaventure (15-10, 5-4 A-10)
• St. Bonaventure is coming off a rough outing against Canisius on Wednesday afternoon. The Bonnies seven game winning streak was snapped by the Golden Griffs who tallied at least one run in every inning to beat St. Bonaventure 24-8.
• The Bonnies captured an early 4-1 advantage after two innings of play. Kevin Suminksi added an RBI in the top of the second to push the advantage to three runs before the Golden Griffins exploded for 20 unanswered runs to take a 21-4 lead heading into the seventh frame.
• St. Bonaventure is lead by senior Randy Moley. Moley leads the Atlantic 10 in batting average (.560), slugging percentage (.791), on base percentage (.606), and hits (51). As of April 6th, Moley ranked first in batting average and on base percentage, 15th in hits, and seventh in doubles per game (7) in NCAA standings.
• Anthony Randich is currently second in the Atlantic 10 with a .417 batting average. Randich is tied with Moley on the team for the most homeruns (4) and RBIs (33) this season.
• Overall, the team is hitting .314 on the season.
• The Bonnies pitching is lead by Cody Vincent. Vincent was recently named the Atlantic 10 Baseball Co-Pitcher of the Week (4/6) after leading St. Bonaventure to a 5-0 week. Vincent had a hand in three of the team's five wins as he picked up a pair of saves and a complete game victory. In all, Vincent tossed 13 innings in his three appearances, allowing just two runs and striking out 10. This season, Vincent has posted a 2-2 record with a team high two saves. Vincent is posting a 2.66 ERA.
• Overall, the team is posting an ERA of 5.70 (135 ER / 213.1 IP).
Series History
• UMass leads the all-times series at St. Bonaventure 27-19.
• The Minutemen faced the Bonnies for the first time in 1993 with the latest win coming back in 2006.

• UMass baseball exploded for five runs in the bottom of the sixth en route to the win over St. Bonaventure. Travis Munsey was 3-4 on the afternoon with one RBI, while Derrick Durepo was 1-2 with three RBI. Bryan Adamski earned the win, pitching four innings.
• UMass baseball (11-25, 9-12 A-10) exploded for five runs in the bottom of the sixth en route to the 9-6 win over St. Bonaventure (22-17, 14-6 A-10) on Sunday afternoon. Travis Munsey was 3-4 on the afternoon with one RBI, while Derrick Durepo was 1-2 with three RBI. Bryan Adamski earned the win, pitching four innings.
UMass Baseball Week Recap
• UMass started the week off with a tough loss to the UConn Huskies on Tuesday afternoon. UMass fell 13-6 to UConn after giving up a season high 19 hits to the Huskies.
• Sophomore pitcher Jared Freni (Malden, Mass.) gave up ten hits over 4 1/3 innings to give the Huskies a 4-0 lead, which they never gave up. UConn's Matt McDonald lasted an impressive six innings allowing only two runs on four hits to earn the win.
• With the score at 12-4, UMass looked to stage a comeback in the bottom of the eighth after the bases were loaded with no outs. Black singled to second base to score sophomore Mike Donato (East Hartford, Conn.) from third. Multner came to the plate with no outs, but grounded out into a double play followed by Baudinet grounding out to third to end the inning.
• Andrew Black was 2-for-4 on the day with one RBI, while Jim Macdonald was 2-for-5 with one RBI. Freni received the loss for the Minutemen and falls to 0-2 on the season.
• UMass looked to rebound on Wednesday when the Minutemen faced the Harvard Crimson in round one of the Beanpot.
• Mike Dicato (Winthrop, Mass.) and Nathan Monroy (Flemington, N.J.) combined on a four-hit shutout to defeat Harvard, 3-0, in the opening round of the Beanpot at Fraser Field. DiCato (1-1) hurled 6 2/3 shutout innings, allowing only three hits while striking out five to earn his first victory of the season. Monroy surrendered only one hit in 2 1/3 innings to pick up his second save of the year.
• Brian Baudinet (Watertown, Conn.) was 2-for-2 on the night with a double, a walk, a run scored, and stole a base. Adam Tempesta was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored. Mike Donato (East Hartford, Conn.) and Bryan Garrity (Peabody, Mass.) each drove in a run. Every batter in the UMass lineup recorded a hit, as the Minutemen outhit the Crimson, 12-4
Serino Earns Atlantic 10 Honors
• Freshman left-handed pitcher Nick Serino (Saugus, Mass.) was honored as the A-10 Rookie of the Week (4/6) after earning his second career win against George Washington. Serino, now 2-1 this season, pitched 6 1/3 shutout innings and struck out seven batters in UMass' 4-0 win. After facing 24 batters, Serino scattered five hits, all of which were singles.
• Serino, a 2007 graduate of Malden Catholic High School, was named a Catholic Conference All-Star as a junior and senior and compiled a career mark of 22-6 with 254 strikeouts and a 1.56 ERA.
• Serino is the first Minuteman to be honored by the A-10 this season.
