Papineau Named To Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association All-Region Team

Amherst, Mass. - UMass rower Gabrielle Papineau was selected to the All-Region team for the Mid-Atlantic Region by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association. She was part of the varsity eight and varsity four this season. UMass also had 14 rowers, including Papineau, earn Scholar-Athlete status from the CRCA for the 2007 season.
Papineau. a graduate student from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, was in her third year in the varsity eight. The boat took second at both the Atlantic 10 and ECAC Championships. The varsity four, also took second at the A-10's. She was chosen to the Mid-Atlantic team with 12 other athletes from the following schools - Bucknell, Columbia, Pennsylvania, Princeton, Rutgers, Syracuse, and the U.S. Naval Academy. UMass last had an All-Region selection in 2005, when Lea Jakobsen was named to the team.
Papineau, who was named to the national scholar-athlete team in 2005, joined 13 other UMass rowers as CRCA Scholar-Athletes for maintaining a 3.5 cumulative grade point average, rowing in 75% of the UMass competitions, and being a sophomore or above.
The others named CRCA Scholar-Athletes were Maria Arcari, Hannah Brewster, Airlina Burrill, Tara Guinan, Erin Kelly, Jeanine LeDoux, Abby Lively, Anna Malinkevich, Sarah Marsan, Amanda Mawn, Karen Plevock, Emily Reynolds, and Anna Welch.
